Lately, Matt and I have been trying to establish a bedtime routine in the hopes that one of these days, it will inspire Henry to sleep longer than three hours and lately, more accurately, longer than an hour and a half. Every night around 8:00, Matt gives him a bath while I pump a bottle for him. The bottle is supposed to ensure that he is easily very full so he can go longer before eating again. He does go to sleep every night after our little routine, just hasn't made it a very long sleep yet.
Today, Henry got a bath in the middle of the day. Why, you ask? I will tell you.
Henry loves to eat after he wakes up. I was getting ready to feed him after he woke up from a nap this afternoon. That's when I heard the rumbling. He filled his pants. I almost decided to wait and change him after he ate... Well, that idea would not have lasted long because as soon as I picked him up, I could feel the scope of the situation we were dealing with. That's right, say it with me now, BLOWOUT. Poop half way up his back. By the time I got the clothes off, poop up to the neck. Gross. Daytime bath in lieu of night time bath. Obviously.
Here's our little naked baby awaiting his bath in his changing table mat turned into transportation apparatus. The poop was not going to be completely eliminated without a bath, so I was not about to pick up the poopy baby with my bare hands... Sorry, baby. (Note the strategic draping... He did that himself.)
Clean, happy baby in his wonderful hooded towel that Sister Lawrence made for him.
Clean, happy baby back.
A little bit of tummy time.
After his bath, Henry had lunch. I was desparately hoping that the ending to this blog entry would be that he drifted off into an afternoon nap that lasted several hours because he's so used to his routine of the bath followed by food followed by sleep. He hasn't let me sleep longer than an hour and a half for a few days. (And really, the last time I slept longer than that was because of Matt, not Henry.) But no. He is awake and calmly observing the toys that hang above his bouncy chair.
I think he's just adorable...

I think he is adorable too - but I could do without the poopy pants!
I SO wish I had some advice for you...but I don't. Camryn is not the poster child for a well-rested baby! It DOES get better, but not so fast that you'd notice. I think it has something to do with growth spurts. Whatever the reason, perpetual sleep deprivation really, REALLY sucks!
A week or so after Camryn was born, my mother-in-law was staying with us to help out, and my sister-in-law, who at the time had a four-month-old baby boy, called Linda for advice. Her complaint: Preston was no longer sleeping well. He was waking up after only six hours of sleep and she was at her wits' end. I wanted to grab the phone and scream into it, "Try a night at OUR house!!! Six hours? Really? SIX HOURS?!? So you know the extent to which I'd break the LAW for six hours' sleep?!? Stop whining, shut up, and hang up the phone RIGHT NOW!!!" Sleep deprivation does not bring out the best in me!
Henry is so cute, and getting so big! We miss not seeing you guys, you will have to plan a visit soon!!! :) I was telling Mike how cute Henry was, and telling him that he can hold his head up WAY better than Chloe when he's on his tummy and yet he's almost a month younger! (Both my girls HATE(D) being on their tummys) Mike's reply was, "Well, at least Chloe sleeps most the night, what would you rather, sleep or a baby with good neck muscles?" haha, leave it to the boys to make lamo comments, huh? (Of course my answer back was 'both'!)
Anyway, I have no advice either on the sleeping thing, I have been told my many people I got lucky with both my girls being great sleepers... but don't think I have angels either, Maddie I'm paying for now (she is a handful!) and Chloe has reflux so is pretty fussy and spits up tons during the day. It'll get better eventually, Maddie slept better once she was on formula, rather than nursing. They stay fuller longer... one great benefit of forumla.
Sorry for the extremely long post, guess it's been just way too long since we've seen or talked to you guys! Good luck....
PS. Tell Kelly it's time for a new post on his blog. I check in every now and then and the 'campaign time' is getting old! :)
I am glad that you can end that post after "I think he is so adorable" after a poopy blowout (gross!) and only 1 1/2 hours of sleep. You must truly be his mother. I'm having a hard time with some certain children that aren't my own. Anything younger than 18 months I am great with. Older than that...it takes some more patience. I guess that is why those other things don't matter. Henry is so adorable, it makes up for everything else. Just wait :)
