Matthew and I met when we were 19 years old.
We were both home from our freshman year of college and lived on the same street.
He made me laugh. One night we went to a dance with a bunch of people. I was cracking up on the way home because of something Matthew was doing and saying and that's when I got a crush on him. I don't even remember what it was, but he was so funny to me.
We did lots together that summer. Mostly in groups and with our siblings. We played card games, watched movies, and went to singles' activities and dances. My favorite times were when we were on the same team. Or when he would ask me to dance.
He was preparing to go on a mission, and I was still flirting with other boys.
One night at the end of the summer we went to a dance in Seattle, Matthew, my brother and me. I drove us all home that night around 2:00 in the morning and they both fell asleep. I was deep in my own thoughts as we drove back into our neighborhood when Matt leaned up and asked, "Are you alright?" Something in his voice connected with my soul. It was just one of the first of many times that I felt the sincere kindness of his heart.
After I went back to school, we emailed back and forth. He asked me to write him while he was on his mission. He asked at least three different times. You know, just to be sure.
We've been married for six years today.
How lucky am I?
To share my life with someone who makes me laugh and still has such a tender, caring heart.
Happy anniversary, Matthew.

You guys are sooo cute!! I loved reading this post. Happy Anniversary!!!
I remember all those "letters" you'd tape for him while we were in Paris and he was serving his mission! I thought it was terribly romantic. It's AWESOME to be married to your best friend. And Matt sounds like a true gem and a wonderful husband and dad. Congratulations!
Happy Anniversary! You two rock! So glad your foot is doing better also. :)
So glad you two are lovers. I remember sitting by the pool at King Henry planning your wedding. Man, that was a long time ago. I am pretty sure I have a picture of me proposing to you though... that lucky Matt, he's lucky you turned me down.
So sweet, Julie. You and Matt make such a perfect couple and I'm glad to know you!
I was reading your, "help I need somebody" post, and I just loved it. Sometimes, even when our lives do have turns that we expect--even plan for--we are thrown off by how different they feel than we thought they would.
I don't think anyone's life turns out the way they plan, but hindsight shows us that our trials are there to make us the most happy. It's counterintuitive in the moment, though. I've been having a hard time recently feeling really happy with my career choices and with all the hormone overload of being pregnant, and both these posts just made me feel good. So thanks.
aaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!!!!! Even thought I've known you for a while, that story was new to me! Love it!
Thanks sweetheart. I love you too.
