I did some purging today.
I stood in my closet and held a black dress at arm's length. Surveying the piece, I remembered that it was a dress that my mom had bought me my freshman year of high school for band concerts. I was looking hard for inspiration as to how I could change it or update it. Having already been hemmed and patched over th years, I wasn't sure if there was much left to do.
Then. Oh duh. MY MOM BOUGHT MY THIS DRESS MY FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGHT SCHOOL. That's almost exactly 14 years ago. Plus, it hasn't fit me since before I got pregnant.
Trash it! Don't even save it for the fabric! It's almost threadbare!
Sometimes I need to take a harder look at what's around me, and try to see how things really are. Let go a little more. Stop constantly looking ahead. Be where I am right now.
And if something doesn't work right now, I don't need it.
So, I ever so smugly trashed the clock in our bathroom that has been broken for months, but continues to tick-tock.
What will be next?
I love it!

Let's purge our houses together...feels so good!!!
I completely agree with the sentiment to "stop always looking ahead," and just be where you are right now. It can be so hard to do, but it is pretty exhilarating when you can just enjoy life as it is and forget about changing everything to make it better.
Amen to throwing out high school clothes too. Definitely deserved. Now, how about a new little black dress to take its place? I think yes.
you're so brave!!! i need to do that but every time i start, i end up "playing" with the treasures i find!!! curses!
