a public display

Ah, yesterday was a day for the history books.  You may have seen my husband's post on facebook, the picture of me all warm and cozy, wrapped in blankets in my hospital bed.  Like so:

And now if you'd like to read the tale, carry on.

On my lunch break, I went to Macy's for my Clinique bonus.  Because, it's that time of year.  Then, I decided to stop by Subway for a chicken sandwich to take back to the office and eat.  As soon as I stopped to stand in line, I began to feel light headed.  It continued to get worse, so I went and sat down, leaving my purse at the counter.

The blood seemed to have returned to my head, so I got up, paid for my lunch and went to get my drink.  I was just putting the lid on my cup when I thought to myself, "I should sit down again."

However, the next thing I knew, I was coming to, laying on the floor in the arms of a stranger.  He was a very kind older gentleman who had caught me.  It was a good thing he did, because it meant that I only hit my head twice on the way down.

The paramedics were called and they were very concerned about my blood pressure, which dropped by about 30 points between laying down and standing up.  So they strapped me to a bed and took me to the ER.

In the end, all my tests came back normal.  So, that's good.  Turns out my low blood pressure combined with pregnancy makes me susceptible to these sorts of episodes.  So, that's exciting.  You know, to keep everyone on their toes.

Besides a little headache and my wounded pride, I am feeling much better a day later.  And really, it was so nice how  many people came to my rescue.  I was instantly surrounded by kind, caring people.  Because, as one of them said, "This is Seattle.  We take care of each other."

My goodness, that's a scary situation! I'm glad that everyone was looking out for you. (I saw the pic on Facebook and was worried, so I'm glad you elaborated a little here.) Please take care of yourself!

Trust a Northwesterner to come to your aid! Karl, as a Californian, is not the world's biggest fan of the NW, but he was in Portland for a business trip months ago and said the people there were so kind to him--especially the dredlocked guy at the Voodoo Donuts counter, who probably had nothing in common with Karl beyond donuts.

So glad you're feeling better!

What a "fun" day! Hope it doesn't happen to you again.
